We are all lovers of literature who want to enhance the teaching of literary studies and share our passion and ideas.
ATLEB works to –
The Association of Teachers of Literatures in English, Bangladesh (ATLEB) aims to build an enduring network among tertiary level teachers of literatures in English. Its mission includes ;
(a) generating interest in, and enthusiasm for, literatures and literary studies in English;
(b) promoting research on Bangladeshi writing in English and the literatures of under-represented communities of Bangladesh;
(c) encouraging translations of literary works from and into English;
(d) and training teachers of literatures in English.
To give special attention to postcolonial, transnational and translingual writings, particularly, Bangladeshi and other South Asian writings in English or in English translations along with the study of canonical literature;
To advocate issues that are of particular relevance now in literary studies such as literature and the environment, or English Studies and the digital humanities;
To highlight the importance of liberal education in the intellectual growth and development of individuals;
To recognize literary studies as a platform to study the literary cultures and traditions of under-represented communities of Bangladesh;
To publish a biennial journal and, from time to time, bibliographies;
To organize literary and interdisciplinary conferences, workshops, discussions/talks regularly and publish these as proceedings when feasible;
To promote creative writing, translation studies, and collaborative research;
To encourage the study of, and research on, the classics and contemporary world literature in English translations;
To offer professional training of teachers of literatures in English;
To establish linkages with any institutions, societies, or associations whose objectives are similar to the Association’s own purpose and ideals.
